Blue Economy Development Index
The Blue Economy Development Index (BEDI), is a platform to strengthen integrated coastal and marine policy governance in the socio-ecological system, thereby encouraging the achievement of SDG-14. BEDI is used to manage the use of resources that emphasizes the principle of sustainability, but at the same time can evaluate the social benefits obtained.
The Future
The basic principle of the BEDI method is to calculate the cumulative index of all variables or indicators. The index of each of these indicators needs to be calculated in subsequent years to understand the development of trends in each country. To achieve the sustainability of BEDI’s goals, in 2021 the BEDI algorithm method has been implemented in the online platform so that it can show the overall rating scale and indicators. This will enable the participating countries of the AIS Forum to monitor and update the indicator data needed for index management. In addition, BEDI will enable policymakers, academics, civil society organizations, and the private sector to obtain data and information across various sectors of the marine economy to determine where development gaps exist. For this reason, the availability of data is very important for the process of developing the BEDI algorithm.
